Space & Image

Perspective.
Balance.
Guidance.
Images communicate a visual perspective of the content. Since the eye of the viewer is often first drawn to images, they also serve as the starting point for communicating the aesthetic of the space. The organization of the space functions to provide balance between the images, text, and other modes of communication. It functions to guide the viewers eye through the space and amplify its readability and navigability. Collectively, image and space work together creatively to provide an aesthetic of vision and clarity.
Example
This is the homepage for a personal learning website. The image is selected to represent the theme of the site. In this case, the subject of the course: Managing Design & Technology. While the VR goggles are an immediate reference to technology, it is the empty blue space that amplifies the man's demeanor of concentration and forges an element of vision, two qualities that reference the skill of "managing design." The empty space makes for an uncluttered message and offers only the navigation bar left to explore. Overall, image and space work together to communicate the theme from a visual perspective and guide the viewer to a clear navigational point.
