Design.
Learning and studying design and design thinking may have been the most valuable experience of this program (if I had to choose one). It’s also the area where I experienced the largest learning curve. As a teacher, design is implicit in all that we do but never called out directly or studied as a part of a central and vital component to our craft. For this reason, all the information I learned about design was new, exciting, and so relevant to everything I do. This component of the course changed my perspective on teaching and learning, and I can say that it gave rise to the “transformative’ learning experience that we all seek from education. The collection of work here offers several evaluative pieces of design in different contexts, from the functional design of everyday objects in the home to the design of effective solutions to complex problems in institutions of higher learning. It also includes three drafts of philosohpy statements focused on different contexts of design, as well as an example learning experience design and a fundamental design system for use on future projects. I welcome you to browse my work focused on design.
